Emirates & Sultanates

Students explore the expansion of the ‘Muslim’ World from a variety of lenses, focusing on identifying patterns in the rise (and fall) of dynasties, emirates, and sultanates. The unit exposes students to polities from the 700s to the 1500s CE, spanning Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Southern Asia. Focus is also placed on influential persons and the circumstances that lead to their influence.
